El Premio Nacional dijo además que Vallejo "era linda, lo que la proyectó a nivel internacional", por lo que el PC "la proyectó al tiro".

El Premio Nacional de Historia, Gabriel Salazar, afirmó que si la dirigenta estudiantil, Camila Vallejo, es "inteligente" debe abandonar el Partido Comunista (PC).
"Camila Vallejo dentro del PC va a hacer carrera, pero si es suficientemente inteligente debe abandonar el partido", aseguró el historiador en una entrevista al diario El Llanquihue.
Asimismo, Salazar agregó que la joven "tiene 23 años y hay que conocer el PC... es una máquina que la controlan los viejos".
"Los partidos políticos siguen pensando en preparar líderes para que hagan la carrera política. Qué pasó en este caso: el Partido Comunista se dio cuenta que la Camila Vallejo era muy atractiva, porque es inteligente y bonita. Si uno la escucha bien, se da cuenta que no es un gran líder político: no es tonta y habla fluido, pero hoy cualquier cabro de secundaria habla fluido", recalcó Salazar.
En esa línea, el historiador explicó que "ella (Vallejo) era una líder más de estos que surgen de las asambleas. La diferencia es que ella aparece dirigiendo la Fech en un momento único de movilización estudiantil que despertó interés nacional. Además era linda, lo que la proyectó a nivel internacional, entonces el PC la proyectó al tiro(…). La metió al comité central y no me extrañaría que la metieran muy pronto a diputada o una cosa así". 
Respecto a la postura de Vallejo respecto a Cuba -el endiosamiento de Fidel Castro y que no reconociera las violaciones a los DD.HH-, Salazar dice que Vallejo "muestra ingenuidad y que es demasiado joven. Yo conozco mucho a la izquierda y sé que dentro de la juventud el Che Guevara está por el cielo, Fidel por las nubes (…). Ella se dejó llevar por eso y lo tiró con adjetivaciones enormes, pero eso es normal dentro de la gente joven del PC. Si fuera más madura, si hubiera leído más y conociera la historia real sabría que Fidel… ¡Es que una democracia socialista no puede tener un caudillo por jefe por 40 años! ¡Eso es dictadura, es deformación del sentido del socialismo!. 

Hermana de Camila Vallejo responde dichos de Salazar: "Quizás haya que haberle trabajado a la Concertación para entender la realidad"

Javiera Vallejo y Juan Andrés Lagos respondieron las declaraciones del historiador. Lagos afirmó que Salazar en "historia, respetable. En política, errático y muy prepotente".

Las reacciones a la entrevista del Premio Nacional Historia, Gabriel Salazar, no se hicieron esperar. La hermana de Camila Vallejo, Javiera, y el periodista, Juan Andrés Lagos, respondieron rápidamente y a través de su cuenta de twitter a los dichos del historiador.
La primera en reaccionar fue Javiera que escribió en la red social: "qué pena que seas historiador y te inviten solo para hablar de Camila Vallejo, y además digas lo que diría un comentarista de SQP".
Acto seguido consignó lo siguiente: "'Es que es demasiado joven' jajajaja quizás haya que llegar a ser viejito como él, haberle trabajado a la 'concerta' para entender la realidad". 
En tanto Juan Andrés Lagos, que también es miembro de la Comisión Política y Encargado Internacional del PC, escribió que el historiador "descalifica a los viejos, y desmerece a los jóvenes. Así no superamos fragmentación pos moderna y neoliberal".
Asimismo, dijo que "Salazar, en historia, respetable. En política, errático y muy prepotente".
Por último afirmó que "en política, me gustaría saber la razón por la cual Salazar no apoyo a Gladys Marín, Tomas Hirsch, Jorge Arrate; y llamó a votar por  Ricardo Lagos Escobar".

Camila Antonia Amaranta Vallejo Dowling (Spanish: [kaˈmila baˈʝexo]) (vah-YAY-ho) (born 28 April 1988 in Santiago) is a Chilean geography undergraduate student and member of the Chilean Communist Youth. As president of the University of Chile Student Federation (Fech) and main spokesperson of the Confederation of Chilean Students (Confech), she led a movement for better access to quality education at the end of April 2011 — which continues as of April 2012.[2]

Biography

Vallejo is the daughter of Reinaldo Vallejo and Mariela Dowling, both members of Chilean Communist Party and activists in the Chilean resistance during the military dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet.[citation needed]
Vallejo lived her childhood between the communes of Macul and La Florida, and she studied in Colegio Raimapu, a middle and upper middle class Co-Ed private school in La Florida.
In 2006, Vallejo entered the University of Chile to study geography. There, she started forming ties with leftist students and getting involved in politics, which led her to join the Chilean Communist Youth the next year.[3] She was counselor of Fech in 2008, and was chosen as its president in November 2010, becoming only the second woman to hold this post in the 105-year history of the student union.[4]
“We believe that the key to a successful student movement is to reposition the Federation to that of Vanguard at the national level; to return to interweave social networks with the people, the workers, with social organizations, the trade unions, and with the youth who did not make it into the University - who were left kicking stones. On 7 December 2011, Vallejo was defeated in her bid for re-election by Gabriel Boric, a Law School graduate.[6] In October 2011 she was elected to the Central Committee of the Communist Youth of Chile at its XIII National Congress.
Vallejo has acquired public attention as a leading spokesperson and leader of the 2011 student protests in Chile, alongside other student leaders: Giorgio Jackson from the Catholic University of Chile Student Federation and Camilo Ballesteros from the University of Santiago, Chile Student Federation.
In August 2011, the Supreme Court of Chile ordered police protection for Vallejo after she received death threats.[4][7]

Recognition

Vallejo has been labeled by the media as the most important and influential Communist personality of the 21st century in Chile, and also as the symbolic successor of Gladys Marín.[8][9]
Vallejo has been praised publicly by several entertainers. In September 2011, Calle 13 traveled to Chile to support the student movement, and in a concert they invited some students and members of the Confech, including Vallejo.[10][11]
In August 2011 Vallejo was displayed on the front page of the German weekly Die Zeit[12] and in December of that year she was overwhelmingly chosen "Person of the Year" in an online poll by readers of The Guardian,[13] which four months earlier had published a piece on her.[4]
Vallejo has been included by magazines in such lists as "100 People Who Mattered" by Time Magazine on its December 2011 "Time Person of the Year" annual issue,[14] and in "150 Fearless Women" by Newsweek in March 2012.[15][16]
